Drivers have long known that slowing down on the highway means getting more miles to the gallon. Now airlines are trying it, too — adding a few minutes to flights to save millions on fuel. Southwest Airlines projects it can save $42 million US in fuel by extending each flight by one to three minutes.
One area of serious concern is the Gulf of St. Lawrence where the Canadian government has issued pleas and regulations to slow ship traffic down during the summer season.
